Iceland Day 9 - Greenland

Goodbye to our loyal partner

We woke up very early in that morning. After 9 full days' adventurous journey, our loyal partner had been sticked with many dirts, dusts, stains, remains, soils, small rocks... Sorry about that. We took "him" to have a BIG bath in the nearby fuel station. We fed "him" well before we said goodbye. "He" took us to the Rejkjavik Domestic Airport and we arrived at 8:00am. A guy came to the airport to pick "him" away. Goodbye!

Leaving for Kulusuk -
In the Plane

We were supposed to take 10:10am morning flight to Kulusuk. 30+ People packed in the a small room in Reykjavik domestic airport, and embraced with their enthusiasm to see their Greenland. Due to the poor weather in Kulusuk, departure time was postponed for an hour.

Return ticket to Kulusuk, a small village in eastern Greenland was cost at 63400ISK. Pricey! It was scenery to look out throughout the 2 hours' plane. Flake like iceberg, and snow topped mountains.

Heading to Kulusuk Village

Greenland is under Danmark custody. My first sight to a white man. He said hello to me and introduced himself as the guide to walk us through for the day. I forgot his name. Recalling his feature, he was danish, tall and smart at mid forty my guess.

It took 40 minutes to go on foot to a small Inuit Village, the only local village in Kulusuk.

On the row... On the road

Inuit Village in Kulusuk

Eskimos call themselves Inuit. Their surviving was a struggle, a constant battle with the elements.
They live on seals and polar bear with high suicide rate. Igloo is their shelter in this arctic continent. Huts in Kulusuk are uncommon to Inuit.

Something local - People, Dog, hotel, Church and Airport

The Danish guide touched on the culture, life style and weather. There is no comparable words like "Hello" in local language because Inuit don't need it.

Lovely Eskimo dogs are tool for hunting. They are allowed to stay outside when they eat, sleep, mate or sick.

Gear Notes

Quality outdoor gear is important to keep yourself warm, dry and safe. Careful choice of hiking shoes which should be non-slippery and absolutely water proof.

Goodbye - my Greenland!! Kulusuk

We left at around 4pm. It was another 2 hours flight plus 2 hours time different. Everybody was very tired after returning back to Reykjavik. It was our first attempt and desire to take a taxi back home.
